Sure?os (Spanish for "Southerners") are a group of Mexican American (Chicano) street gangs with origins in Southern California. There are hundreds of Sure?o gangs in California, and each has its own identity on the streets.
Sure?os are controlled and influenced by the Mexican Mafia, who represent about half of the gang membership.[citation needed] These gangs are found throughout the urban and rural areas of Southern California.
